Playing with Change
“The (Jesus) turned to the crowd: “When you see clouds coming from the west, you say ‘storm’s coming’ and you are right…You know how to tell a change in the weather so don’t tell me you can’t tell a change in the season, the God-season we’re in now.” (Luke 12:54-56 The Message)
Margaret Babcock tells this story: When I was a small child and the weather was rainy and cold, my mother would often set up a card table in the middle of the living room and drape a blanket over it. When my siblings and I crawled underneath, we entered into a realm where nothing was impossible. We could have played at any fantasy: monsters from Mars, children lost in the wild, anything at all.
The space under the table helped her to imagine what it would be like to transform herself. When she emerged from under that blanket, she had a better sense of what it meant to be playing with the need to change.
God wants us to have this kind of experience, to see endless possibilities of what God can do through us, if we allow ourselves to enter a realm where we play with the need to change, a realm where creativity and transformation of lives can be found. So what do you see when you crawl underneath the spiritual table of your life, envisioning what God would have you do? And are you willing to make that life-changing realm a reality?
